WELCOME back ARTISTS!
A new school year begins...
It was clear on the first day of class that many RMS artists had been thinking about and planning art ideas over the summer. Those veterans students, familiar with the studio set-up, felt frustrated on our first day, when “house-keeping “ chores (labeling portfolios and decorating sketch-book covers) took precedent over art making opportunities. I will need to accelerate the “grand opening” of “Centers” in the art room for many classes, who are raring to go.
Some students greeted me on the playground, during our school-wide opening ceremony, to describe summer art experiences they enjoyed. I shared some of my own summer art making with classes as well, and felt the joy and exhilaration that has become the trademark of our RMS artist community.
Parents have already started dragging bags and boxes of precious materials of all kinds to the art room, in anticipation of our reputation for making use of almost anything. Thank you for this tangible support, and for all the kind words on behalf of your children. It’s going to be a great year!
